After a graded lifting of the restrictions I am glad to say that for the past 10 weeks all elective surgery procedures can now be performed without restrictions relating to COVID.  

As of last week there are Government restrictions on elective surgery both in the public and private settings.

The Australian Orthopaedic Association and the Australian Knee Society have, in collaboration, released a position statement regarding the usefulness of knee arthroscopy (keyhole knee surgery) for the treatment of meniscus tears in the setting of early arthritic change in the knee.

The process of having cutting jigs made specific to your knee is a straightforward one.  A MRI of the leg is taken and the images are sent to the product laboratory where a 3D printer is used to make the jigs.

There has been, in the last 12 months or so, a wave of media hype about anterior hip replacement surgery.  While this is a good approach it must be recognised that it has advantages and disadvantages, and it is not indicated for all patients.

I am pleased to say that the joint replacements I use are performing extremely well with very low rates of revision at the 10 year mark

I recently performed a Cochrane database (a well respected medical information source forstudies) looking at the research to support the injection of stem cells into knee for the treatment ofknee osteoarthritis – or ‘wear and tear’ arthritis of the knee.

If you meet certain criteria you may be a candidate for a partial knee replacement. The question then is why would you choose this over a total knee replacement?

Initially viscosupplementation was used in the knee joint but its indications are extending and it is now commonly used in the hip joint. It may also be indicated for shoulder arthritis and ankle joint arthritis.
